Peace be with you!
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Harry De Freitas and I am pleased to accept the position of PCL (Parish Catechetical Leader) of the Religious Education Department here at St. Ambrose, effective January 1, 2023. I am a Deacon Candidate, currently in my third year of formation. Lord willing, I will become a permanent Deacon serving the Diocese of Metuchen in the Spring of 2024. I am married and have 3 beautiful grown-up children. My daughter is married, and my two sons live in my home. My wife is a substitute teacher and she is also a Cantor and Children’s Choir Director for St. Bartholomew’s Church in East Brunswick.
I worked in the corporate world as a trainer, Manager, and Project Manager for about 40 years with a company called Verizon and its predecessor companies. I traveled all over the world teaching managers, employees, technicians, executives from developing nations, customers, doctors, nurses, and contractors. I taught them how to use our software, tools, processes and procedures. I retired a year and a half ago (or so I thought).
I have taught 3rd grade through high school religious Education. I have volunteered for up to 13 parish ministries including RCIA, Men’s Cornerstone Ministry, Carpenters for Christ, Knights of Columbus, Sacristan, Altar Server, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Lector, Outreach Ministry, Food Pantry worker and so on. I was a youth minister for over 30 years. More recently, I run a virtual rosary prayer for priests once a week.
As I assume this new position, I am grateful for Kathy Abair’s hard work in leading the Parish Catechetical program and her involvement for the past nine years. I pray for her and her family in discerning the new things the Lord is calling them to accomplish. I hope to have an opportunity in the coming months to meet all St. Ambrose parishioners. I would love to share just some of the stories of God’s intervention in my life and the life of my family members, as well as some important experiences on the Mass and the Sacraments. More importantly, I hope to be able to invite many of you to assist in our Parish School of Religion (PSR) program.
In Christ,
Harry De Freitas

"People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are honest, people may cheat you Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good. Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway."

Your friends at,
Law Enforcement
It is important to support their faithful commitment and self-sacrifice given while safeguarding our communities. We are particularly mindful of the need to come together in prayer and appreciation for our local law enforcement agencies, paying tribute to these fine men and women.
St. Michael the Archangel,
patron of those who serve in law enforcement,
defend us and be our protection
against the wickedness and snares of the evil.
God of all goodness, who through your Son
gave us a marvelous example of service to others
and the great commandment of love for one another,
we humbly ask that you extend your protection
and bless our brothers and sisters
who have dedicated themselves to serve and protect
all the inhabitants of our community.
Please remember all law enforcement in your daily prayers.
